It’s Monday.

Need I say more?

The only thing that redeems this otherwise useless Monday morning is the memory of my weekend. It wasn’t like I went and painted the town red, but I spent the entire two days impressing myself and being a social butterfly.

I attended my former best friends baby shower on Saturday afternoon and was greeted warmly and with much enthusiasm. Instead of being shy, I made the rounds, smiled my smile and realized that I was the only non-married, non-childbearing women under the age of 40 in that house. I spent, maybe, ten seconds feeling uncomfortable because of the fact, and then resumed my endearing behavior.

Sunday was the Superbowl. B and I decided to attend different parties, as my parents party wasn’t one for the true football fan. After parting ways, I arrived early at my parents. As twenty other people drifted in throughout the game, I spent time bonding with people I haven’t seen since I was in high school. I smiled and talked my way into conversations, spoke warmly of my relationship with B and had fun. But the most impressing thing about that whole afternoon came towards the end of the game when I was saying goodbye to my former best friends sister and she said, eyeing my carefully,

“I better be getting a wedding invitation soon.”

Without even stuttering, I replied coolly,

“Well, my brother and his girl are getting pretty serious. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were engaged soon.” I smiled and weave my way past her, feeling great about the way I had handled her backhanded comment.

I am woman. I am cool and confident. I am saavy and chic. I can handle anything, even Mondays.
