The things you'll do.... =)

I got home last night tired and feeling a sickness coming on. I lay on the floor and hold my tummy.

"Okay," he says as he hangs up the telephone, "we can go pick up the entertainment center at 8 o’clock."

"I don’t feel well," I groan, "I feel really nauseous."

"Really? I’m sorry," he pouts, "Well, will you still come ride in the car with me?"

I answer with silence. I will go and he knows that. After all, it’s only a ride in the car. We’ll be home in an hour, tops. I nod "okay."

"Good," he smiles, "I need my co-pilot, my navigator. Good."

Two hours later we are on our way home. I am exhausted, dreading Monday morning already. Surprisingly, I am not frustrated with the drama of the evening; the getting lost, the disassembly of the entertainment unit, the long drive to Pleasant Hill, etc. I am just tired. Too tired to care.

It is quiet, my eyes are beginning to close when,

"Why do you love me?" he asks.

I laugh, "who knows?"

"I often sit at work and wonder about that…" he says matter-of-factly.

"Do you really?" I question.

"Sometimes."

I am starring at him when I say, "I love you for a million reasons."

The subject changes to the excitement he is feeling over the free entertainment center we just acquired.
"I’m proud of us," he says, "getting something beautiful for absolutely nothing."

I smile. I am too tired and feeling too sick to be that excited over a piece of furniture. I rest my arm on the piece of wood that is propped between our seats, lean my head back and close my eyes. I feel the warmth of his fingers as he takes my hand in his. He lifts my hand to his lips and kisses it softly.

"Thank you for coming with me," he says, "I couldn’t have done it without my co-pilot. It wouldn’t have been right." His face is lit up.

"You’re welcome," I say sleepily, but trying to match his enthusiasm.

He leaves my hand to rest on his leg while he plays with my hair. "We’re almost home, baby. We’re almost home."
