don't know where this came from

My generation is in trouble.

We use these blogs to voice our opinions, express our frusterations, expell our sadness and communicate our concerns about any variety of issues. And this is where the danger lies.

I am all for online journaling, blogging, etc. Sometimes this is the only way for me to sort things out inside my head. So I understand why these communication tools have expanded into mainstream. But these tools of communication are supposed to spur real conversation, stir up emotions, get people thinking. The danger is when what a post becomes nothing more.

If you communicate your problems, your life through postings, but the communication channel ends there, then you're in danger. You cannot use your blog as a escape route, hoping that you'll never have to use those lips of yours to express your feelings in audible words. You cannot bury yourself behind these tools, thinking that the people in your life will learn everything they need to know from a personalized website. It's dangerous.

Instead of the phone now, we use email more prevelently. And if you do happen to pick up the phone, you hope for a voicemail box to pick up. The world is becoming yes, more efficient through technology, but also less and less personal and we are teaching the generations after us that its okay.

What is so wrong with expressing your true, audible voice? Have we really learned that much fear in such a small amount of time?

I have had some sort of online journal since I was fifteen. Up until now, they were used to hide my real voice. I would allow my friends to read them in order to discover the things that I couldn't tell them in person. it was easier that way, for them to read the words on the page instead of me uttering the words, watching the hurt creep up in their faces. I would post things that hurt me, for the world to see, but could not even mutter my feelings to the ones who were most important to me.

All I'm saying is that if you have a balance of these two communication tools, then there is no danger. But some people have to learn to communicate outside of this text only world. Please, I would rather hear the words coming from your mouth then read them on the world wide web, being the last to know.

Blogs are great communication tools, they are. Just don't let it be your only mode of communication.
