A fault of mine

Letting other people's opinion shape my decisions is a huge fault of mine, one that has cost me relationships, educational opportunies and even friends. It's not that I can't make my own decisions, its just that I take advice too far sometimes. For example, I was dating a guy for almost two years when my mother randomly tells me that she doesnt think we are right for each other. And over the next couple months, that comment poisoned my thoughts about our relationship and I ended up breaking it off for no good reason. Now, I do take what my parents say to heart, but that wasnt the first time something like that had happened and I've let it happen since. "Friends" of mine will criticize something I am doing or someone I'm seeing and I start believing them, even though they have no clue about the subject.

So I was thinking about this in context to my relationship now with Bryan and how there has been several times that I have thought something is wrong with our relationship based on the thoughts and feelings of others. But you know what? No one knows the ins and outs of your relationship exept the two of you. Maybe all my friends only hear me vent about Bryan. Maybe I don't include any of the good things about our relationship in the conversations. Regardless, you have to let go of those one-sided comments, because if you don't, you end up living your life according to what others think is best. Instead, say to those who criticize: " I know you have my best interests at heart, but stop. Let me live. Let me make my own decisions and don't fault me if I don't become who you want me to be."
